I don’t even want to hear it.

It’s coming up on a whole year since I wrote one of these, and I have no excuse. But, I know you’ve all enjoyed not having to suffer through these anymore.

Well too bad! Because here comes one again.

Happy New Year! Is it too late to say that? I feel like any day in the month of January should be fair game, but I don’t make the rules.

(Barely follow them to be honest)

A lot has changed. (One would hope that’s the case in 10 months)

The last job that I posted about, I’m still there!

Since I’ve written the last post, I’ve moved TWICE. That’s right! Twice in 10 months. Absolute blasphemy.

But, I’m pretty sure where we are now will stick for now. The house is great, the neighbors keep to themselves, and the most important thing…the animals love it!

Thanos would love anywhere that exists, but Starlord is just happy that he has a patio to get away from us as much as possible.

Next up is the fact that in addition to the love of my life, I now live with one of my best friends! Which only is going to be detrimental to Nick because he’s just going to have to listen to us. But he made his choice.

Speaking of his choice, guess who got engaged?! That’s right.

And the best part of the whole thing? I didn’t know about it at all. Which was my only stipulation whenever he decided to do it.

Y’all know that I love attention so I obviously wanted him to do it somewhere where the attention was going to be focused on me.

But, one of my superpowers is being able to figure out my Christmas gift from Nick every year. Here’s the kicker though. I don’t want to figure out my gift beforehand because I love surprises. And Nick? Is horrible at keeping secrets. So without even trying, I am able to figure it out.

August 7th though? I had no idea what was going to happen.

Here’s all of the clues that I was oblivious to then, but that are obvious to me now.

Leading up to that day, two of my best friends had asked if we could go to the zoo. The Brevard Zoo has giraffes (favorite animal obviously) that you can feed, so it’s obviously one of my favorite places.

They asked me if we could go and if Nick could drive us. Seemed a little odd that they would want Nick to purposely be the only guy there, but I asked him anyway. And he said yes! (clue #1)

The week we were supposed to go, I got super sick and there was a 90% chance that I was going to have to cancel. I took Covid tests to make sure I was good, but the results weren’t going to be ready until the day BEFORE the zoo.

I was confused as to why my friends and Nick were so concerned about the results. Not just like concerned for my health but concerned that the zoo wouldn’t happen (clue #2).

The results turned out to be negative so I let everyone know that it was still happening! The next day, my friends told me to dress cute so we could take pictures at the zoo (clue #3).

Our patio curtains happened to be open when my friends pulled up, and I saw one of them put something in Nick’s now open trunk. Immediately, I asked him why Allison would be putting anything in his trunk, to which he said “I accidentally pressed the open button so I think she’s just closing it.” (clue #4 that actually seemed suspicious at the time but I didn’t care quite enough to ask)

What was in the trunk actually turned out to be my engagement gift! But, I digress.

Once we go to the zoo, everyone said that they immediately wanted to go feed the giraffes. I love giraffes so I obviously had no problem with this (clue #5).

As soon as I got in line, I didn’t care about anything else except for getting my lettuce and feeding the giraffes. Nick bought me lettuce, and I ran over to the one I named Geoffrey and proceeded to have the best day ever.

After Geoffrey licked my hand, I screamed (lovingly of course), and turned around to tell people about it, and there was Nick! On one knee with my friends in place to take photographs.

*crickets*

There were actual crickets because I didn’t say anything. Except for asking anyone around “Is this real?”, I didn’t respond.

You know how you picture what you would say when someone proposes to you, and then when it happens, you freeze? That was me. I don’t work well under pressure.

Just ask anyone that I’ve played Taboo with.

Finally, I did come back down to reality and said (a very obvious) yes and the celebration commenced!

So it turns out that I can be surprised if you put your mind to it!

Ta-dah! That’s all of my life changes in the past 10 months.

I’m going to spare you the promises that I’ll be better about writing these. Who knows? The next time I write a new one, I might even be married (October 7th, here we come!)

New Job, Who Dis?

It happened!

I know what you’re all thinking. “Yeah, Jazmyn. You wrote a blog post after not writing since July.”

That’s not it. Well, that’s true, but that’s not the reason for this post.

I got another job! Hard to believe since I’ve only been at my current (current as I write this, will be past when your lovely eyes read this) job for 8 months. But, here we go!

I officially start my new job today, and I AM EXCITED. Not only am I excited to start a new opportunity, but I am excited to actually doing something that I enjoy.

That’s not even the best part. Ya girl has been on NUMEROUS interviews over the past couple of months. I’ve been on so many that I actually don’t even get nervous for them anymore because it’s just completely out of my hands. But, this one was different.

And you know what I said at the end of the interview? “This is the most fun that I’ve ever had in an interview”.

BLASPHEMY.

You’re not supposed to have fun in interviews, but I did!

Maybe it was because they gave me the space to talk about the Golden Girls (RIP Betty).

Maybe it’s the fact that they asked to see my dog, who was squeaking toys NONSTOP in the background.

MAYBE it’s the fact that when I bent down to pick Thanos up, they could see that though I was business professional on the top, I was CLEARLY wearing sweats on the bottom (not gonna lie; wouldn’t have changed this part in the interview if I had the chance).

They got to see Jazmyn in all her personality glory! I wonder what the deciding factor was….probably the Golden Girls tangent.

Doesn’t really matter!

What matters is that it has finally come to an end, just like Euphoria.

No one tell me anything because I haven’t even started the series.

BUT

I know way too much about Maddie (apparently can’t be spelled ‘Maddy’), and who was monitoring this so called play that Lexi put on?

I haven’t watched the show just yet, though Zendaya is absolute perfection, but I get a play by play on Twitter every Sunday. I actually had to log off this past Sunday just to not figure out who dies in the finale.

Spoiler alert: It was already ruined for me, but I’m hoping I forget it by the time I start the show.

BUT I DIGRESS.

You didn’t come here to read about Euphoria, though I wouldn’t blame you if you did (Tom Holland, here’s hoping that Euphoria being in the title will spark your interest).

I got to walk into that studio today, slightly nervous and still obsessed with the Golden Girls, and they’re completely okay with it!

Buckle in, friends. There’s a lot of changes that have happened since we last spoke! And I don’t just mean my fluctuating weight.

I graduated! That’s right. I graduated with my Master’s about two weeks ago. Surprise, surprise!

So, all of the time that I wasn’t writing on here, I was probably studying for something or making the 40 presentations I had to create in the past two years. I told you I had a good reason!

Next, I got a new job! Unfortunately, it is not with The Walt Disney Company so my last day working there (for now) was yesterday.

And anyone that’s reading this knows how emotionally unstable I am.

So, I cried. I cried saying goodbye to my favorite manager. I cried clocking out for the first time. I even cried saying goodbye to my best friend. (Which in hindsight is dumb because I’m going to still see her all the time)

But, my mental state doesn’t know the difference between rational crying and irrational crying so here we are.

Now for the job part! I am going to be a Social Media Specialist for Bed, Bath & Beyond. Ya girl is excited! You know what the best part is? It’s work from home!

So now my new co-worker is Thanos! He’s super excited, I assure you.

Last not but least, ya girl has finally worked off all of her quarantine weight! (I want to blame it all on quarantine, but Nick can take at LEAST 50% of the blame. Being happy will cost you!)

It may not seem like the biggest deal, but since I thought I would never do it, it’s huge.

And It was super easy. All it took was watching what I eat, working out 6 days a week, and doing numerous 5K’s.

Kidding. Well, I’m kidding about the “easy” part. Literally nothing about it was easy because I have almost no willpower.

But, I’ve found that as long as I stop eating after a certain time, I can prolong this.

Stay tuned for when I give up and just eat my weight in LifeSaver Gummies!

Phew! Now, that was a doozy! So many changes, I almost don’t even know how to handle myself.

I can finally say that I’m not as tired anymore.

I can actually come home and do NOTHING. How do people handle themselves?

So I’ll start by saying that I intended on writing one of these when the new year started so I think that we can cross “keeping her priorities straight” off the list for 2021!

But, the real issue is that they sadly did not create more hours in the day for 2021. You would think that would’ve been a priority considering what a trash year 2020 was.

Yet here I am with the same amount of hours in each day and nowhere near enough time for me to complete everything that I want to do.

I’m not even going to comment on how long it’s been since I’ve written one of these. I’m not one to dwell on the past.

Though I am definitely going to go back to Disney when they call me back, I felt that it was good for my sanity (what little of it that’s left) and my health (before I gain 200 pounds) to do something productive every day so I will have a reason to get out of bed before noon now.

And since I’ve already started the job, I can tell you that even though I am forced to wake up at 6:50 every day, it’s a work at home job. You know what the best part is? I don’t even have to put on pants to do the actual job.

My actual dream job doesn’t involve me having to put on pants for the entire day. So the fact that this is one where I can have FRIENDS playing in the background is something that I live for.

It is a customer service job so it is quite similar to what I’ve been doing at Disney, but it’s less of me telling idiotic people to put their mask on and more of me asking people information about their car to determine if they can sell it to us or not.

I do miss being at Disney and just the sheer enjoyment of people able to enjoy the fact that I work there, but I’m not too upset about the fact that my office is my room.

Things could be much worse, so I’m feeling quite blessed right now.

As far as the rest of my life goes, I have a family reunion coming up, and if you’ve met my family before, you’ll know that that is going to be a spectacle in and of itself.

It’s the Handmaid’s Tale All Over Again

You know who’s underappreciated? The Amish.

We don’t really hear enough about them, do we? Or maybe you do, and I’m just the one that’s out of the loop.

Isn’t the Handmaid’s Tale about the Amish? I’ve only seen one episode, but that’s the gist that I got.

Even so, I’d like to think that I got a piece of that Amish life over the past day or so.

This is probably way different than what the Amish have to deal with, but it’s the only comparison I can currently think of.

So bear with me, friends.

After enjoying what felt like one of the hottest days on this planet (which is every day here in Florida), my roommates and I walked in to find that the WiFi in our house was not working. I know what you’re all thinking. We immediately begin to panic, right?

Surprisingly no.

It’s happened before, and we know that the WiFi usually comes back on within a couple of hours. Since we’re all adults, or at least trying to be, we all have unlimited data on our phones so turning off the WiFi until it’s fixed doesn’t seem like it’ll be an issue, right?

WRONG.

If you’re like me and you have Sprint, you know that service doesn’t work ANYWHERE. And “anywhere” does happen to include my house in this situation. If my mom calls me (yes I promise people other than Kristal call me), I have to turn my WiFi off just to be able to make sure that the call doesn’t drop.

Even though nobody had been talking to me all day, of course as soon as the Wifi goes out, I suddenly become the most popular person on this planet. I could see that I was getting tagged in Golden Girls memes on Facebook, snapchats responding to the semi-thirst trap I had just posted on my story, and getting my fourth text message of the day. Or was it the fifth?

Either way, I was getting notifications that I couldn’t respond to, and this is how I know that technology has ruined me.

Whenever I was sitting down in the living room with my best friends, want to know what we talked about for the first 30 minutes that we were together? Nothing!

We couldn’t watch New Girl for the 6^th time, and we couldn’t turn on Bob’s Burgers (for me to force my friends to watch my favorite 5 episodes over and over again), so apparently we had nothing to talk about.

We sat in silence, while playing Animal Crossing of course. Is this what the Amish have to do? Do they actually have to speak to each other?

What madness!

Though I am slightly exaggerating, it was definitely different being forced to enjoy either’s company instead of laughing over the same jokes on TV that we watch every day. My friends and I eventually got into a groove of talking to each other, but at what cost?

My roommate couldn’t handle not being able to watch TV (since we don’t have cable…not the best choice in this situation) so he dropped everything and went to Redbox to rent movies to watch to get him through the night. Smart man!

I immediately remembered that before I started buying everything on digital (clearly a mistake now), I did buy DVD’s. But, you know what I didn’t buy?

A DVD player.

*insert facepalm right here*

So right this very second, I am being forced to watch DVD’s (Horrible Bosses, Crazy, Stupid, Love and Black Panther to be exact) on my computer screen because APPARENTLY my Mac doesn’t have an HDMI port.

Apple keeps taking away vital parts of their devices, and what do I keep doing?

I keep buying more of their devices! It’s a vicious cycle that must stop.

Anyway… as of right now, our WiFi has not been fixed so we are all in our rooms right now trying to find something to pass the time. I think we’re all secretly hoping that when we wake up tomorrow, it’ll magically come back on.

Fingers crossed, friends because I can’t handle this Amish lifestyle for much longer.

Welcome to ACNH Anonymous…Take A Seat.

So I wish that I could say that I was able to stay strong.

But, I think that everyone that’s met me can tell that that’s pretty much not who I am.

I spent 24 hours crying over how Veep ended. I can’t sleep at night until my roommates come home because I’m assuming that my loneliness will be broadcasted to every burglar in a 10-mile radius.

And last but least, I am now addicted to Animal Crossing.

Now, before this quarantine started, I was able to proudly say that I didn’t own a Switch and had no intention of buying one. I was able to pass all of the time away by simply reading, something I don’t get to do very often and it’s honestly one of my favorite things to do.

Well, that changed.

And I blame society.

That’s right. I blame all of you heathens reading this that posted about getting a Switch and getting Animal Crossing.

By doing this, I eventually got curious. So then I had to research. And you know what I found?

Not a single bad review about this game. No one regretted buying it. No one was ready to take it back to the stores. And everyone I knew was addicted to it!

My friend bought his girlfriend one, and she happens to be one of my best friends. I never understood what she was doing when she played it.

All I knew was that she was catching these really long fish that looked ridiculous, and she got really excited when she got to go to some place called ‘Tarantula Island’.

Sounds pretty juvenile, right? I mean, at first glance, the game looks like it’s for kids! It’s about animals. It’s basically the same as if Neopets made a comeback. Though I do wonder how all of mine are doing.

Are they struggling like me? Probably.

Anyway, so after my birthday (I am no longer speaking to anyone that didn’t wish me a happy birthday because you literally had nothing else better to do than to sit at home and watch my obnoxious snapchat about it being my birthday. I agreed out loud, but in my head, I was screaming ‘no’.

What use did I have for it?

Sure I’m bored, but I have books. And if anyone has ever read a Lisa Jackson book, I can assure you that you’re never bored.

Finally, I decided to play on my friend’s, and it was the worst mistake ever. She let me catch fish, and I was just as bad at it as I am in real life. (At least I don’t have to beg my papa to put the bait on and shriek until someone takes the fish off the line if I ever actually catch one). I also got to see how cute her little person was, and the thing I was most excited about?

Her little person had glasses! Round glasses to be exact. The very ones that I own in real life.

And, that’s it. I was sold. I ordered one and got it a week later, and my life has been a downward spiral ever since.

I say that with the most positive attitude.

But, I’ve been waiting for the days to change so my museum can be built, so my people that I’ve invited can finally get settled into their new homes (after I gathered all the material for these ungrateful animals), and so I can keep traveling to different islands after 7 just HOPING that I get to catch at least ONE tarantula.

So it happened, friends. I am one of you now. Let’s all put our chairs in a circle and discuss where we were in life before this game was invented and where we plan on being after it ends.

You’ll have your chance on the podium, and I’ll bring the donuts.

After I see what Tom Nook needs from me today, of course.

Social Distancing Isn’t Hard for the Anti-Social

Alright everyone.

I’m not even going to apologize for not writing in almost a month because the world is ENDING.

I’m kidding. But, things are changing hour by hour and it’s INSANITY. At this time last week, I was at work, while complaining about being at work, and my biggest concern was being stressed about turning something in on time.

I also had an open gym that I could go to at will and not have to worry about my poor eating habits.

Today, I AM NO LONGER WORKING AND I HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS. TODAY I AM GOING TO GAIN 80 POUNDS.

Anyone that’s ever spent more than a couple of minutes with me should be able to understand while two weeks is way too much time for me to be alone with my thoughts.

At first whenever they said that we didn’t have to come to work, I was elated. I was thinking that I could go to the beach and just have more time to hang out with friends.

BUT now we have to practice this thing called social distancing? I’d like to think that I practice that everyday because I’m not a very outgoing person.

HOW DO PEOPLE LIVE WITH ONLY THEMSELVES EVERYDAY.

There are way too many voices in my head for me to be able to handle all of this solitude. Let’s hope no one has to commit me after all of this is over. Kidding! Or am I?

So let’s find out what I’ve been doing while it’s only day FOUR of this quarantine.

I think my bed is just permanently dented from where I’ve barely gotten out of it. Every single day, I stay in bed until AT LEAST 11 AM. So my sleep schedule will be ALL FOOPED UP when all of this is finally over.

I did finish a book, and that was pretty much the thing I was most excited about for all of this. More time to read equals a happy Jazmyn!

My roommates and I decided to finish Love is Blind, and I am LIVID that we discovered this show before the quarantine and not during it. How am I going to get through this without being able to watch Jessica drunk for the 12th time? Or be weirded out by the fact that Kelly and Kenny’s parents’ names are exactly the same? OR cry about the fact that Lauren and Cameron are ABSOLUTE GOALS?

As someone who has an unhealthy amount of TV shows that she watches, there aren’t many on Netflix that I haven’t conquered yet! So if anyone has any suggestions of shows that I haven’t already seen and obsessed over, feel free to let me know!

I can only watch Infinity War and Endgame one more time before it equals double digits. And even though watching both of those takes half the day away, I think watching Gamora and Iron Man’s deaths this many times isn’t healthy for my psyche.

As if my psyche needs any more obstacles.

But, I digress.

I am staying safe, and I hope everyone else is too. I am still going to the gym, must to my mother’s disappointment.

KRISTAL, IF I DON’T GO, I WILL GAIN 40 POUNDS AND I CAN’T HAVE THAT. I never gained the Freshman 15 when I was in school, and I feel like my time will come if I spend every part of this day being sedentary.

Social distance yourself to a degree!

You don’t have to be completely alone, but at least limit your company, friends!

Let’s hope in 2 weeks that all of this will go back to normal, and we can all go back to being the social butterflies we claim to be.

JUST KIDDING.

Maybe this time off will do us all some good. Maybe we’ll discover something about ourselves.

And maybe it’ll make Jazmyn have to rearrange her birthday plans in 21 days!

Don’t worry; I will 100% find a way to celebrate my birthday, quarantine or not. I know you guys were worried for me.

I Will Not Throw Away My Shot (to attack)

You know one thing that I’ve realized?

I haven’t seen enough Broadway musicals in my lifetime. Everyone knows that I would probably pass out if I were to ever see Hamilton or meet (and/or attack) Lin Manuel-Miranda.

So even though I live 30 minutes from a theater that performs Broadway musicals, for some odd reason, I haven’t been to it since I saw the Lion King 3 years ago (and that one CHANGED MY LIFE).

It’s amazing how many times my life has been changed by the smallest things.

Anyway…

Obviously, I convinced 2 of my best friends to come with me when I saw that Aladdin was being performed! Another Broadway musical? SIGN ME UP.

Now, the funny thing here is that I definitely have never seen Aladdin. Like I’ve never seen the actual animated movie.

I can definitely tell you what happens and who does what. Or at least I thought I could until a guy was talking for about 5 minutes in the musical before I turned to my best friend and asked “Who is that?”

Her answer?

“Jafar.”

So there’s another character that isn’t Genie, the princess, and Aladdin? Who apparently is poor and isn’t well-known! Clearly, I pretty much only knew “A Whole New World” and that’s pretty much it.

But, after I asked around to see how my co-workers enjoyed it, everyone kept saying “It’s different from the movie.”

How is that possible? It’s literally the same concept with more signing and real people?

They were quite right! It was very good though I can’t confirm or deny if it was different from the movie because I STILL HAVEN’T SEEN THE MOVIE.

Even so, it was absolutely amazing. If you didn’t want to be the Genie’s best friend after the show was over, then we clearly didn’t watch the same show.

And it just showed me that I need to watch more Broadway shows because why not?!

So that is what this post is going to be about. Though I could definitely write an entire blog post about Hamilton and my OVERWHELMING desire to see it (don’t tempt me, friends), I will spare you guys the details about something that I’ve never even see live yet the soundtrack itself has changed my life.

So the next time I write about a post, let’s hope by some miracle that is about Hamilton and that I’ve finally seen it!

Until then, let’s rejoice about the fact that it’s 47 days until my birthday!
