Alright, so don’t fight me on this one, but I did finally get around to watching another movie off the list.
And whew, it’s a doozy. Prepare yourself for this. It’s…The Little Mermaid.
Told you that you needed to prepare yourself! I’m kidding though. Even though I do enjoy the soundtrack to this movie, I had never seen The Little Mermaid before a couple of months ago. And I’ll be honest with you, I wasn’t really the biggest fan of this movie.
I know it’s a classic, and I know that most people love it, but it could’ve been better.
Personally, I’ve never really been a fan of the whole mermaid thing. I can’t swim so I honestly didn’t see the benefit of being one. But Ariel did a have a dope voice, and I was definitely a fan of homegirl’s outfit.
She had so much freedom, other than the fact that he did want to keep her close to him at all times, which is understandable. But he did have like 16 children so honestly, unless this is Jon & Kate Plus 8, it’s hard to keep up with that many children.
And they’re all mermaids, so they can swim wherever they want at will? Nope, even more difficult!
To continue this lovely story, Ariel’s singing voice was great. And the guy wasn’t even all that cute!
AND SHE HAD THE ABSOLUTE NERVE to give up her voice for the guy. And it’s not even that fact completely.
It’s the fact that she didn’t even think the decision through all the way. Giving up her voice for a guy? Yeah, that’s outrageous and she deserved better but my biggest concern was that she didn’t consider the fact that she can’t communicate with him without a voice. Unless she was skilled in sign language, which I highly doubt, homegirl is just going to have to rely on hand motions.
And Ursula was even more rude because she didn’t just take away her singing voice, she took away her whole voice! That’s just unnecessary. At least make the girl still able to communicate with others in some way.
I mean, I don’t know how kind of pheromones she’s sending off, but I don’t know how many people fall in love with their significant other without saying anything. But then again, the girl is half fish, half woman, so this really isn’t the question that I should be asking, now is it?
All in all, this movie wasn’t horrible, but Ariel definitely made some suspect choices.
Befriending animals?
Giving up her voice to some spider woman?
Obviously, Ariel isn’t of sound mind so I don’t really understand how she’s a princess, but whatever.
Anyway, all in all, I’d rate this movie about 3 fish (Get it? Because of Flounder?)
I’d watch it again, mostly because Sebastian is the Jamaican voice that I want in my head for the rest of my life. And secondly because Ariel’s cluelessness in “Part of Your World” is basically how clueless I am with my entire life.
Alright, Ariel maybe you’re doing something right, girl.
And that SHOULD have been the end of the blog post, but as I am finishing this bad boy up, I’ve realized that I’ve already written on The Little Mermaid and just never crossed it off the list.
That’s right, people. I have literally written a second post on a movie that I’ve already seen and it took me 500 words in to realize that.
Honestly, I think we all know who the person that isn’t of sound mind is.
IT’S ME. AHHHHHHH
